We welcome April Coffee Roasters to our selection

1 Farmer, 1 Roaster, 1 Coffee

This Danish roastery is driven by a clear and focused vision: to progress the way coffee is roasted. At April, coffee roasting isn’t just a task — it’s a profession and a passion.

One of the things that stood out to us is their Sustainable Profile project — a thoughtful approach to building a more sustainable business model that benefits everyone along the coffee supply chain.

In the early days, April focused on micro-lots, buying just 1 to 10 bags from producers. But when they asked the farmers if these small purchases made a meaningful difference, the answer was often “no.” The low volumes and lack of consistency made it hard for producers to build a reliable, sustainable income.

That’s when April developed the Sustainable Profile: a new category focused on purchasing larger volumes of high-quality coffee from the same producers, and roasting it consistently throughout the year. This isn’t just a seasonal feature; it’s also the house coffee used in all April locations.

In April’s own words:

"Sustainable Profile is an exploration of the coffee supply and value chain. An exercise in producing excellent quality products by respecting the supply chain in its entirety. It has been a long-held philosophy of ours that it is important to grow together with our partners — in this case, the strength of our relationship is based on a foundation of honesty, transparency, and respect."

Today, they work closely with farms like Volcán Azul in Costa Rica, Kamavindi Estate in Kenya, El Socorro in Guatemala and Fazenda Esperança in Brazil — all long-term partners producing consistently excellent coffee.

For The Gardener, this felt like the perfect match. We’re excited to stock coffees that are not only delicious and beautifully roasted but also sustainable, fairly priced, and accessible to everyone.

We don’t plan to fill our shelves with expensive micro-lots. Instead, we believe great coffee should be available to more people, without compromising on quality or ethics.

Because sustainability doesn’t just mean better for the planet — it means fairness for farmers, roasters, and customers alike.
